Tapir Specialist Group Chair Wins Golden Ark Award Photo: Patricia Medici
February, 2008:
Patricia Medici was selected to receive the international Golden Ark Award for her contributions to lowland tapir research and conservation in Brazil, as well as for her work as Chair of the IUCN/SSC Tapir Specialist Group (TSG).

The Golden Ark Award rewards and funds individuals for their internationally outstanding species conservation efforts. The Golden Ark Award honors creativity, leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of species conservation, and aims to stimulate award winners to sustain their dedicated work.

Patricia and two other award winners will each receive a €50,000 contribution to fund their conservation work. Congratulations, Pati!

Help fund critical work being made to save tapirs from extinction! All four species of tapir are either endangered or threatened. TSG's Conservation Fund gives grants to dedicated researchers working specifically with tapirs in the field.
Donations to the TSG Conservation Fund help support:
  • Small grants to researchers in the field
  • Funds to publish multi-lingual educational materials
  • Local grassroots tapir conservation

TSG Endorsement Criteria: The IUCN/SSC Tapir Specialist Group actively encourages its members to submit their project proposals to TSG officers for endorsement. This will provide members with advice, editorial assistance and, when requested, a supporting letter for funding applications.
